The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental organisation that protects the rights of people affected by displacement. This includes refugees and internally displaced persons who are forced to flee their homes as a result of conflict, human rights violations and acute violence, as well as climate change and natural disasters. NRC is politically independent and has no religious affiliation. It is the only Norwegian organisation that specialises in international efforts to provide assistance, protection and durable solutions for people affected by displacement. NRC employs approximately 16,500 staff members and incentive workers in 32 countries throughout Africa, Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. The NRC headquarters is located in Oslo and has about 280 employees. NRC was established in 1946 under the name “Europahjelpen” (“Aid to Europe”), to assist refugees in Europe after World War II. In 1953, the organisation changed to its current name, Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). Today NRC is organised as an independent, private foundation.

Job Summary

By focusing on equitable access to basic services and bolstering the rights of displaced people and returnees, NRC has been able to bridge the gap between development cooperation and humanitarian aid. These strategic locations have also given NRC greater reach from the north and south parts of the North-East and North Central region. Apart from the aforementioned Area Offices and the Country Office, NRC maintains sub-offices in Dikwa, Monguno, Biu, Mubi, Pulka, and Gwoza.

Key responsibilities of Driver Jobs in Nigeria (NRC):

• Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
• Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
• Immediately report accidents, breakdowns and needs of repair and general maintenance/service
• Respect the local traffic regulations and the NRC logistical/vehicle policies at all times
• Maintain the logbook for all trips
• Maintain the vehicle in proper operating condition at all times, including keeping the vehicle clean, ensuring enough fuel, checking the technical state etc.
• In liaison with the line manager, arrange for repairs and servicing
• Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the necessary documents and equipment
• Provide logistical support during trainings and workshops
• Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
• Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
• Ensure vehicle is always clean and in proper condition.
• Drive NRC vehicles to pick or drop employees at their designated duty areas within and sometimes outside Borno State
• Deliver Important documents to required destinations as directed.
• Ensure that all deliveries have been signed and delivered to the correct recipient
• Keep NRC vehicles clean and maintained at all times
• Perform preventive and regular maintenance on NRC vehicle
• Convey NRC staffs on assignments in and out of the office to their desired destinations
• Pick up and drop off NRC staffs and partners from the airport to their destinations
• Cleaning and maintenance of all NRC vehicles
• Chart the best route possible in order to save time
• Update the office on the status of the vehicle particulars for timely registrations and renewals.

Job Requirment

Competencies

Generic professional competencies for this position: 

• Experience from working as service support staff in a humanitarian/recovery context
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• SSCE of WASSCE or NECO Educational Qualification is required
• Valid Driver’s License/Driving school certificate
• Knowledge of local language (Hausa)
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Context related skills, knowledge and experience

• Good basic arithmetic skills.
• Defensive driving skills.
• Experience in handling high profiled vehicles such as Lexus suv’s and double cab pick-up.
• Ability to make good and quick decision on the wheel.
